As the battle of the big brands in the world of Mixed Martial Arts starts to heat up, it’s been reported that adidas has now entered the MMA space as well, signing a sponsorship deal with Ed Soares’ Resurrection Fighting Alliance (RFA). Although adidas is no stranger to the combat sports scene, this is the brand’s first major push in Mixed Martial Arts as the industry continues to grow globally. Focusing on grassroots initiatives to start, adidas will be launching a new MMA line including fight shorts and protective gear, with the brand’s famed three stripes logo appearing on the RFA cage, mat, fence and fighter gloves.
While rival athletic apparel and footwear giant Nike tends to focus on endorsement deals with individual athletes – having signed Jon Jones, Anderson Silva and Junior dos Santos during the past year – adidas typically embraces teams and leagues, as witnessed with the RFA deal. Will adidas enter the Octagon as well as an official UFC sponsor? We’ll have to wait and see. In the meantime stay tuned for more info on adidas as the brand with the three stripes steps inside the cage starting with this Friday’s RFA event on AXS TV.
